Friday Okonofua

Friday is an obstetrician and gynaecologist and Professor Emeritus at the University of Benin, Nigeria. He is the pioneer Vice Chancellor of Ondo State University of Medical Sciences and founder of Women Health and Action Research Centre, a not-for-profit organization  headquartered in Benin City, that focuses on promoting female reproductive research. He holds a medical degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and a PhD in International Health from Karolinska Institute, Sweden. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Postgraduate College in Obstetrics and Gynaeology, the West African College of Surgeons, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, UK, the Takemi program in International Health at Harvard University, the Nigerian Academy of Science, the African Academy of Sciences, and the United States National Academy of Medicine (NAM). A global leader in women’s health, he has published over 380 journal articles.

Alberto Amaral

Alberto holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and is Professor Emeritus at the University of Porto, Portugal and a researcher at the Centre for Research in Higher Education Policies (CIPES), Portugal. He was the rector of the University of Porto from 1985 to 1998, former chair of the Consortium of Higher Education Researcher (CHER), former member of the Board of IMHE/OECD, of the Steering Committee for the Institutional Quality Audit of the EUA and of the Executive Board of CRE (Council of European Rectors). He was the chair of the Executive Board of the Portuguese Assessment and Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (A3ES) from 2008 to 2020 and is life-member of IAUP (The International Association of University Presidents). He has published several books with Springer, Palgrave Macmillan and Edward Elgar, and numerous papers in higher education policies.

Sue Babich

Sue is the Associate Dean of Global Health and Professor of Community and Global Health at the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, Indiana University Indianapolis, USA. She holds a DrPH from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, and has held various visiting academic positions in Europe and Asia. Professor Babich’s expertise spans global health workforce development, health policy, and health systems strengthening. She was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in Croatia and has published widely on topics such as health leadership, policy, and nutrition. Her awards and recognitions include multiple teaching honours from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, board positions and other global appointments.

Colleen Fisher

Colleen is the immediate former Head of the School of Population and Global Health at UWA. She specialises in qualitative and mixed methods research, which she also teaches across all levels. Her teaching includes units such as Health Leadership, Health Leadership and Management, and Qualitative Research Methods in Health. Professor Fisher’s research focuses on family and domestic violence across the lifespan, cultures, and refugee contexts. She has led multidisciplinary international projects and evaluations of support services. She has served on several government panels in Western Australia and is a Past President of CAPHIA (Council of Academic Public Health Institutions Australasia (CAPHIA) and former Chair of its National Executive ORCID 0000-0003-1636-8988

Haitham Bashier

Haitham is an expert Emergency Manager and a Training and Capacity-Building specialist. He’s the director of the Public Health Emergency Management Center (PHEMC) at EMPHNET. He led the Workforce Capacity at EMPHNET. He was the Executive Director of the International Academy of Public Health (IAPH) in Jordan. He worked as an assistant professor at the School of Medicine, National University in Khartoum. Before joining EMPHNET, he worked as the Director of Teaching and Education at the Public Health Institute in Sudan. He worked as the Emergency and Humanitarian Action Department director at FMOH, Sudan, till 2010. Besides teaching, Dr. Haitham is a researcher, supervisor, and external examiner at many universities. His published work is mainly in emergency management, capacity building, and training.

Bettina Borisch

Bettina is a prominent figure in the field of public health, serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA).

Professor Borisch’s work bridges the fields of medicine, public health, history and global health governance, reflecting her commitment to improving health outcomes globally.

With an extensive academic and professional background, she holds a medical degree and a doctorate in pathology. Her early career was marked by significant contributions to cancer research, particularly in breast cancer pathology and the biology of Non Hodgkin lymphomas, which earned her international recognition. Over time, her focus shifted towards public health, where she advocated for universal health coverage, health equity, and sustainable health systems.

As a key leader in the WFPHA, Professor Borisch plays a critical role in advocating for public health priorities and fostering collaboration among public health professionals worldwide.

She is a vocal advocate for advancing racial equity in women’s health, leveraging her expertise in public health to address systemic disparities affecting marginalised communities.

Tanushree Kochar

Tanushree is a Master of Public Health (Health Research) student at University of Nottingham from India. She earned her BSc in Cell and Molecular Biology through the dual degree programme at Duke Kunshan University, China and Duke University, USA. Her interests lie in health policy, service delivery, and health science communication. She is currently hosting the Glocal(isation) Health Seminar Series at University of Nottingham, highlighting the work of changemakers in the health space around the world that conveys the complex interplay of global and local action in important population health challenges. 

Tom Kuiper

Tom is a Senior Policy Advisor on accreditation and quality assurance at Maastricht University’s Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. With a MSc in Public Health, he has extensive experience in curriculum development and educational governance. He co-developed multiple innovative programmes, including the BSc and MSc European Public Health and the MSc in Health and Digital Technology. Tom has led numerous international projects and accreditation processes and has advised on the creation of Double-Degree programmes with universities across Europe. He was also a co-founder of APHEA and has contributed to several international accreditation panels.

Carlos Eduardo Linares Reyes

Carlos serves as Professor and Coordinator of Professional Practice at the School of Public Health of Mexico (ISNP). He holds a degree in Journalism and Communications from UNAM and a Master’s in Marketing and Organisational Communications from the University of La Rioja, Spain. With experience in print, television, radio and education, he has worked as a journalist, scriptwriter, and communications specialist. He has held roles at UNAM, ILCE, the Mexican Ministry of Education. At the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), Carlos manages academic collaborations and public engagement. He is also a columnist, correspondent and educator.

Anne Karin Lindahl

Anne Karin earned her MD in 1986, a PhD in 1992 and a Master of Health Administration in 2000. Currently she is Head of the Division of Surgery at Akershus University Hospital. Anne Karin has previously served as Executive Director at the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services and was the Medical Director at the South Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. She has led national efforts in patient safety and healthcare quality, contributing internationally through OECD and EU initiatives. An academic since 1988, she is now Professor at the University of Oslo, specialising in healthcare quality, improvement, and patient safety for postgraduate students.

Egil Marstein

Egil is presently Professor of the Practice at the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, Department of Community and Global Health, in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. His primary role supports the Doctoral Program in Global Health Leadership (DrPH). He teaches global health funding and leadership as related to institutional contexts such as those associated with the World Health Organization, World Trade Organization, World Bank and others with a bona fide mandate to develop durable health systems.

Mathuros Tipayamongkholgul

Mathuros is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at Mahidol University, Thailand. She earned her Ph.D. in Epidemiology from National Taiwan University. Prior to joining Mahidol University, she served as a public health technical officer at the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand, where she was responsible for formulating and disseminating strategic plans for tuberculosis (TB) and HIV.
Dr. Tipayamongkholgul has conducted extensive research in epidemiology, health systems, and program evaluation. Her current research focuses on primary health care, community-based health systems, health system evaluation, and implementation research.
Dr. Tipayamongkholgul previously held several leadership roles, including Director of the Master of Public Health Program and Deputy Dean for International Relations and Networking at the Faculty of Public Health, and deputy director for the research and academic affair at the ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University. In addition, she has been recognized as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

Francine Watkins

Professor Francine Watkins is a Professor of Public Health and the Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education in the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool. She has overall responsibility for education and training in the Faculty and overseas the governance and quality assurance of education to ensure it conforms to professional and regulatory requirements. Professor Watkins was the Director of Studies for both the campus and the online Master of Public Health programmes at the University of Liverpool for over 15 years. She is an experienced Dissertation supervisor who has supervised over 45 master’s dissertations and supported a number of students in the publication of their research in Public Health peer reviewed journals. Julien Goodman

Julien has a PhD from Maastricht University in The Netherlands and Masters from Cambridge University in the UK. He was the Executive Director of APHEA for 11 years until the end of 2024. Before this he worked at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in the UK focusing on the establishment and development of Schools and Programmes of public health in the Middle East Region. Yazan is a PhD student in Environmental Health at Harvard University and has completed all degree requirements, with his doctorate scheduled to be officially conferred in February 2026. Sandra qualified as a nurse in 1993, became a professor of educational rehabilitation in 2000, and earned her master’s in pedagogical sciences in 2009. Zubair has a PhD from Trinity College Dublin and an MD from India. He is Senior Lecturer at the School of Public Health, University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. Charlotte Jeavons

Charlotte has worked in a clinical environment as well as community health improvement and NHS service management. Charlotte is currently Head of the School of Human Sciences at University of Greenwich and Professor of Dental Public Health Practice. She has a PhD in (dental) public health ethics focusing on inequalities and their role in community programmes. In 2023 she was awarded Honorary membership of the Faculty of Public Health in recognition of her work in the field of dental public health. Monica is an Associate Professor of Public Health specializing in nutrition, climate, and health promotion. Monica’s research examines how social and environmental factors affect health, especially in children and young people. She combines training in public health (PhD, MPH) and management (MBA) to connect research, education, and practice. Her projects include co-developing climate-friendly school meals with students, growers, producers, and meal planners, as well as designing graduate curricula to prepare future public health leaders. Monica is dedicated to mentoring, interdisciplinary collaboration, and developing practical solutions to enhance population health.

Richard Cooper

Richard is Professor of Public Health and Social Pharmacy at the University of Sheffield. He has extensive experience as an academic educator and researcher and has developed and led on a number of public health degrees and modules for post-graduates and medical students. He is alo a practising community pharmacist and has interests in the use and misuse of medicines, public health, health service research, prescribing and ethics and law and sociology relating to healthcare. He has acted as a reviewer of public health programmes nationally and internationally for more than a dozen institutions, and has had numerous external examiner appointments supporting public health courses in the United Kingdom.

Geoff Setswe

Geoff is Managing Director for Implementation Research at The Aurum Institute in Johannesburg and Node Director for the Bafokeng Health and Demographic Surveillance Site. He is also a Research Fellow in Health Studies at the University of South Africa. A Fulbright Scholar and DrPH graduate, he has held senior roles at the Human Sciences Research Council and Monash University and contributed to founding public health and health sciences schools in South Africa. An authority in HIV/AIDS, TB and global health, he has nearly 100 publications and has supervised over 60 Masters and Doctoral students worldwide.

Gift Kamanga

Gift believes implementation science should drive improvements in health and social economic wellbeing. He has 26 years of experience in clinical and public health practice, programme management and leadership with a focus on HIV programming, clinical mentorship, research, monitoring, evaluation and strategic direction. He has wide knowledge in maternal and child health, family planning and sexual reproductive health and has published extensively on HIV, AIDS and sexually transmitted infections. His work has influenced practice in Malawi, the United States and Liberia and informed global health policy. He is currently Technical Director with FHI 360 in Liberia.

Niluka Wijekoon Kannangarage

Niluka is a seasoned public health professional and epidemiologist with over 15 years of experience working with the United Nations (UN). For the past 11 years, she has served at the World Health Organization (WHO) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, contributing to global health security and emergency response. She is also an Honorary Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Nottingham, UK, where she has been actively involved in postgraduate public health education for eight years.

Dr. Wijekoon specializes in surveillance, early warning, alert, and response in emergency settings, with extensive global field experience across diverse regions, including: Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Fiji, Guinea, Haiti, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Mauritania, Nigeria, Portugal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Syria, Tanzania, Tonga, Vanuatu, and Yemen. She previously managed WHO’s innovative outbreak detection tool, EWARS-in-a-Box, designed for early warning and response in humanitarian emergencies.

Dr. Wijekoon holds a Master of Development Studies from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka, a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom, and a Master of Biostatistics and Epidemiology from the École des hautes études en santé publique (EHESP) in Paris, France. Before transitioning to a career in public health, she worked as an emergency physician in both public and private healthcare sectors.

A committed human rights and gender champion, Dr. Wijekoon integrates equity and rights-based approaches into health emergency preparedness, response, and recovery strategies, ensuring inclusive and fair interventions worldwide.

Priscilla Robinson

Priscilla is a public health educator and epidemiologist. Although technically retired from formal employment, she has spent her entire career working in public health, in both service provision and education and training in England and Australia, with short stints in various other countries in Africa, Asia, and South East Asia.

She has been actively involved in the development and application of professional public health competencies for 25 years, also in diverse settings, and currently co-chairs the World Federation of Public Health Associations’ Professional Education and Training Working Group. In this capacity, she also co-chairs the WHO working group on the Global Competency and Outcomes Framework for the Essential Public Health Functions, one arm of the National Workforce Capacity for Essential Public Health Functions programme, and its implementation sub-group.

She believes that public health education must be designed to train a competent, knowledgeable and transportable workforce, capable of working together respectfully in a diverse range of both common and emergency settings.

Chrissy Severinsen

Chrissy is a Professor of Public Health at Massey University, Aotearoa New Zealand and is Deputy Chair of the Board of the Council of Academic Public Health Institutions Australasia (CAPHIA). She has expertise in public health education, research, and curriculum leadership. Her work focuses on advancing health equity, community- and Indigenous-led health promotion, and strengthening educational quality through decolonising and equity-focused pedagogies. She co-leads Massey University’s Master of Public Health and Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health programmes, and has extensive experience in curriculum design, competencies, and programme review. Chrissy also serves on several governance boards and committees, contributing to public health education and workforce development locally and globally.

Rihab Yazidi Snoussir

Rihab is a public health specialist with over 14 years’ experience in surveillance, epidemiology, and monitoring and evaluation. She works extensively on influenza and respiratory virus surveillance at the Institut Pasteur de Tunis, leading national projects supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She contributes to Tunisia’s national vaccination policy, develops analytical tools, and produces epidemiological intelligence to guide decision-making. A certified trainer, she strengthens research ethics and surveillance capacities across the EMRO region. Rihab also serves as an international consultant with the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) and the International Severe Acute Respiratory and Emerging Infection Consortium (ISARIC).
